According to police, 32-year-old Ram Ashish Nishad murdered his sister Neelam in a fit of rage after learning that their father planned to use ₹6 lakh compensation money—received for land acquired for a road project—for her marriage expenses. In a horrific act, Ram allegedly strangled Neelam with a cloth, broke her body, and packed it into a sack, which he tied to his motorcycle. While on his way to Kushinagar, around 70 km away, to dispose of the body, police stopped him for questioning. Ram reportedly told them the sack contained wheat and was allowed to leave.
