Karisma Kapoor Kids vs Stepmother Priya Kapur: Delhi HC Rebukes ‘Melodramatic’ Fee Dispute in Will Forgery Case

The Delhi High Court on Friday pulled up both sides in the inheritance dispute involving Karisma Kapoor’s children and their stepmother Priya Sachdev Kapur, after a dispute was raised over unpaid university fees of Karisma’s daughter studying in the US.

Senior Advocate Mahesh Jethmalani, appearing for the children, claimed that their father Sunjay Kapur was obligated under the matrimonial decree to fund their education, but the fees had allegedly not been paid for two months. He said the children’s estate was with Priya Kapur and she was responsible.

Senior Advocate Rajiv Nayar, representing Priya Kapur, denied the allegation, insisting that all expenses were fully taken care of and accusing the plaintiffs of raising the issue only to generate media coverage.

Justice Neena Bansal Krishna expressed strong displeasure, stating that such personal issues should not reach the court.

“I don't want to spend more than 30 seconds on this… I don’t want this hearing to be melodramatic,” the judge said, directing Senior Advocate Shyel Trehan to ensure such matters are resolved privately.

The Court was hearing arguments on the interim injunction sought by Karisma’s children to restrain Priya Kapur from alienating Sunjay Kapur’s assets. In the main suit, the siblings accuse Priya—Sunjay’s third wife—of forging his will to take control of his estate. The disputed will, dated March 21, 2025, purportedly leaves Sunjay’s entire personal estate to Priya Sachdev Kapur.

Opposing the injunction, Nayar maintained that the will was genuine, duly executed, attested by two witnesses, and even shared in the family WhatsApp group.

The High Court will continue hearing the matter on November 19, aiming to conclude arguments on the interim application swiftly.
