Madhya Pradesh Tragedy: Love Marriage Ends in Joint Suicide — Couple’s Last Wish Shocked Families
In a deeply distressing incident, a young couple from Sagar district, Madhya Pradesh, ended their lives together in their rented room at Santosh Colony on Bass Road. The couple — 22-year-old Hali and 25-year-old Rajkumar, both residents of Barpani village — had married for love in 2020 and had been living in the colony for the last three years.
Police recovered a two-line suicide note from a notebook found beside them. In it, the couple wrote that they were taking the step voluntarily, and made a painful last request:
“Lay us both on the same pyre and hand over our bodies to our parents.”
They also asked that all their belongings be given to Rajkumar’s younger brother.
A day earlier, on Friday, Rajkumar had posted an Instagram story saying “Last good night to all brothers,” which now appears to have been a farewell message.
Rajkumar worked as a factory labourer in Bhiwadi. His parents and younger brother lived in the same colony in a house they had recently constructed. The other two rooms of the house where the couple stayed were rented out to labourers.
On Saturday afternoon, neighbours grew suspicious when there was no movement from the couple’s room. On checking, they discovered the tragic scene.
Preliminary investigation suggests that the couple had been married for five years but had no children, a factor believed to have caused emotional distress. However, police have not confirmed the exact reason behind the suicide.
Dharuhera Police Station in-charge Kashmir Singh confirmed the recovery of the suicide note and said the matter is being investigated from all angles.
