BJP MLA’s ₹4,000 Demand from Poor Rickshaw Driver — Crowd Steps In, Police Arrive!

Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh: A controversy erupted in the Khutar police station area after BJP MLA from Puranpur, Baburam Paswan, allegedly demanded ₹4,000 from an e-rickshaw driver following a minor collision.

The incident occurred near Tikunia intersection on the Assam Highway when Paswan’s Scorpio reportedly brushed against an e-rickshaw driven by Chhatrapal, a resident of Lakhimpur Kheri. The MLA allegedly accused the driver of breaking his car’s indicator and demanded compensation.

When the driver pleaded that he was poor and could not afford to pay, the MLA reportedly continued to insist. A crowd soon gathered and protested against the MLA’s behaviour, collecting ₹4,000 through public donations to support the driver. Police later reached the spot and dispersed the crowd.

Videos of the altercation quickly went viral on social media, drawing sharp criticism of the MLA’s conduct. Responding to media questions, Paswan reportedly said, “What business is it of yours?”

However, the Khutar police denied the extortion allegation, stating that the e-rickshaw had hit the MLA’s car from behind and that no money was demanded.
