Kasaragod (Kerala): An 18-year-old girl, Jumaila, was hacked to death by her father during a violent dispute in Kunchathur, Manjeswaram, while a relative who was injured in the same attack has also died. Jumaila, a native of Thuminad, Kunchathur, succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment. Her relative, Sheikh Abba of Manjeswaram, who was critically injured during the incident, died later at a private hospital in Mangaluru. The incident occurred around 6 pm on Monday. Police said the accused, Umar Farooq, attacked family members during an argument linked to a property dispute amid ongoing divorce negotiations. He had allegedly demanded that the property be registered in his name. According to relatives, Umar Farooq is a drug addict and had returned to the village about three months ago. The incident took place on February 2–3, near the Mahrauni–Lalitpur road, where angry women, armed with sticks and spades, broke open the liquor shop, dragged out crates and destroyed them, leading to traffic disruption in the area. The women alleged that the liquor shop’s location within the village had led to rising alcoholism, domestic violence and crime, and said repeated complaints and memorandums submitted to the district administration had been ignored, forcing them to escalate their protest. Guwahati (Assam): A 13-year-old girl was rescued from horrific abuse after being found locked inside a storage box beneath a bed during a raid by the District Labour Task Force in Guwahati’s Panjabari area on Sunday. The raid was conducted in the presence of a magistrate at House No. 69, Juripar, owned by Amrin Akhtar Laskar, following complaints from local residents. Officials said the minor had been held as a domestic worker for nearly six years and was allegedly subjected to regular physical abuse. Sensing the raid, the accused allegedly hid the girl inside the bed’s storage compartment, placed a mattress over it and asked a family member to lie on top. After an intensive search lasting about 25 minutes, officials located and rescued the child. The girl was immediately provided assistance, and legal action has been initiated against the accused under relevant laws. Further investigation is underway.

Agra (UP): A young woman travelling on the Marudhar Express was allegedly molested by a group of men at Agra Fort railway station, triggering outrage after one of the accused reportedly escaped from GRP custody. According to the family, when the woman objected to the misbehaviour, her brother was brutally beaten by the accused. The brother managed to catch one of the suspects and handed him over to the Government Railway Police (GRP). However, the accused allegedly went missing from police custody shortly afterwards. The victim’s family has accused the GRP of serious negligence, alleging delays in registering the complaint and claiming that the accused escaped under the watch of a plainclothes sub-inspector. Following the incident, the brother has reportedly been facing threats and intimidation. The incident has raised fresh concerns over women’s safety on trains and accountability of railway police. No official statement has yet been issued on how the accused escaped from custody.

Muzaffarnagar (UP): A 30-year-old man was allegedly strangled to death by his former girlfriend with the help of her current partner and his body dumped in a drain in Muzaffarnagar’s New Mandi area, police said on Monday. The body, found in a drain on February 1, was identified as Sanjeev alias Jeevan. Senior Superintendent of Police Sanjay Kumar said the investigation revealed that Sanjeev had been in a relationship with Sonia for nearly 12 years. However, tensions escalated after Sonia began a relationship with Sadik (also known as Saddam). Police said Sadik opposed Sonia’s continued contact with Sanjeev, leading to frequent disputes. The duo allegedly conspired to eliminate him. During interrogation, both accused confessed that Sanjeev was strangled to death and his body was later dumped in the drain. Sonia and Sadik have been arrested, and further investigation is underway. Legal proceedings have been initiated.

Officials said the road embankment collapsed, causing the bus to overturn several times before falling into the ditch. Over 30 passengers were on board at the time.
