Mumbai Woman Murdered Over Marriage Pressure, Body Dumped in Gorakhpur; Married Lover and Wife Detained
Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh): The identity of the young woman whose naked body was found in bushes under the Gobarhiya drain bridge in the PPganj police station area has been confirmed as Priya, a resident of Mumbai. Police investigations have revealed that she was allegedly murdered by her married lover Vijay and his wife Sandhya after she pressured him to marry her.
According to police, Vijay, a resident of Marad Pali village under Sahajanwan police station, met Priya while working in a private job in Mumbai. The two developed a relationship and lived together. When Priya insisted that Vijay marry her and take her home, he allegedly fled Mumbai and returned to Gorakhpur. Priya later traced him to PPganj, where she discovered that he was already married and had two children.
Police said Priya was willing to become Vijay’s second wife, but his wife Sandhya opposed it. As domestic tensions increased, Vijay and Sandhya allegedly conspired to kill her. Vijay reportedly took Priya to a rented room in PPganj, made her consume excessive alcohol, strangled her with the help of his brother-in-law, and crushed her face with a brick to prevent identification.
The accused then stripped the body and dumped it in bushes under the Gobarhiya drain bridge, using a scooter belonging to Vijay’s father-in-law, a railway employee. Priya’s clothes were allegedly thrown near a riverbank to erase identification clues.
The case saw a major breakthrough after CCTV footage from PPganj town, including a camera near Allahabad Bank, showed three people leaving on a blue scooter around 11:20 pm on the night of the incident, while only two returned later. Based on this lead, police detained Vijay, his wife Sandhya, and his sister-in-law, who runs a beauty parlour in PPganj.
During interrogation, the accused reportedly confessed to the crime. Police have informed Priya’s family in Mumbai. A post-mortem will be conducted after the family arrives, following which the full conspiracy will be formally revealed.
Confirming the developments, CO Campierganj Anurag Singh said three accused have been taken into custody and are being questioned. Further legal action will follow after completion of identification and post-mortem procedures.
