Promised to Reach Home in 10 Minutes, Found Dead in DJB Pit: Night of Horror for HDFC Bank Manager’s Family
Kamal Jain (25), an assistant manager with HDFC Bank in northwest Delhi, went missing late Thursday night after telling his twin brother he would reach home within 10 minutes. Hours later, his body was found in a pit in Janakpuri on Friday morning.
According to family members, Kamal spoke to his brother Karan around 11:53 pm. When he failed to return and calls went unanswered, the family began searching and approached the police to file a missing complaint. They alleged the police declined to register the complaint, citing the 24-hour rule, and provided limited assistance during the night.
Kamal’s body was later found lying beside his Apache RTR 200 motorcycle at the bottom of a pit dug for pipeline work by the Delhi Jal Board (DJB). He was wearing a helmet, riding jacket and gloves at the time of the incident.
The family claimed they visited multiple police stations overnight but received no concrete help. They returned home around 7 am, after which police informed them about the accident site.
Following the incident, the Delhi Jal Board constituted a high-level inquiry committee to probe the matter. The committee will inspect safety measures, barricading, signage and compliance with norms at the worksite, and submit a report by evening. DJB expressed deep sorrow and said strict action would be taken if negligence is found.
