Pakadua Vivah Returns: Youth Forced Into Marriage in Supaul, Minor Claim Triggers POCSO Alarm


The decades-old practice of Pakadua Vivah (coerced marriage) has resurfaced in Bihar, with a fresh incident reported from the Rajeshwari police station area of Supaul district. A video showing a young man allegedly held hostage and forcibly married has gone viral on social media, triggering outrage and raising serious legal concerns.


The video, circulating since Tuesday, shows a newlywed couple seated among villagers, purportedly after being forced into marriage. According to local sources, the incident is linked to an alleged love affair. A 22-year-old man from Madhepura district had reportedly come to meet his girlfriend in her village when he was caught by the girl’s family and local villagers.


Despite resistance, the villagers allegedly detained the youth and compelled the couple to marry at a temple. The act is being widely described as a case of Pakadua Vivah.


The video has further intensified concern after the girl, during questioning by villagers, claimed she was only 15 years old. While the young man stated his age as 22, the girl’s claim of being a minor has brought the matter under the scanner of child marriage laws. Villagers are also heard questioning the man about his ability to earn and support the girl.


Following the viral video, social media users have demanded immediate administrative and police intervention. However, several hours after the video surfaced, no official statement has been issued by the police or district administration.


The key focus of any investigation will be the verification of the girl’s age. If she is found to be a minor, those involved in arranging the marriage—including villagers and local representatives—could face action under the POCSO Act and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act. Reports suggest the young man is still being kept in the village until his family arrives, keeping tensions high.

Greater Noida – In a shocking incident in Roza Jalalpur under Bisrakh police station, a 22-year-old man brutally killed his wife and six-year-old brother-in-law with a stone before hanging himself on Monday evening.
