Man in Burqa Enters Ladies Coach, Tries to Molest Women on Mumbai Local, Flees
A shocking incident was reported on a Mumbai local train after a man allegedly entered a ladies’ reserved compartment wearing a burqa and attempted to inappropriately touch women passengers. The incident took place on a Central Railway fast local bound for CSMT on Friday afternoon.
According to police, women commuters in the second-class ladies’ coach grew suspicious of a co-passenger in a burqa. When confronted, they discovered the person was a man and questioned him for travelling in the ladies’ compartment. Some women began recording the incident on their mobile phones.
The women warned that he would be handed over to the police at Ghatkopar station. However, before the train halted, the accused jumped off the train onto the tracks and fled towards another platform, where he boarded a Karjat-bound local.
The women later complained to on-duty police personnel at Ghatkopar station. CCTV footage was checked, but the accused was not clearly captured. Police also checked the Karjat-bound train at Mulund, but the man had already alighted.
After the video went viral on social media, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) registered an FIR under the Indian Railway Act for unauthorised travel in a ladies’ coach. A search is on to trace the accused.
