House Collapses on Poclain During Encroachment Drive in Banda, Driver Buried Alive

A major accident occurred on Friday during an anti-encroachment drive at the Baberu main intersection in Banda district, Uttar Pradesh, when a three-storey house collapsed onto a Poclain machine, trapping the driver under debris.

The incident took place around 2 pm in the Baberu Kotwali area, where the administration was carrying out demolition as part of a road widening and beautification project. The house, owned by Devendra Kasodhan, was being demolished when a large portion suddenly collapsed on the machine.

The Poclain driver, Dilip Kumar (28), was buried under the rubble, triggering panic at the site. Two bulldozers were deployed, and after nearly 30 minutes of rescue efforts, the injured driver was pulled out and rushed to the hospital. His condition is reported to be stable. The machine was also damaged in the accident.

Senior officials, including CO Saurabh Singh and the Deputy District Magistrate, reached the spot and supervised the rescue operation. The administration said an investigation is underway.

The incident sparked anger among local traders, who alleged negligence by the tehsil administration and the PWD, claiming adequate safety measures were not followed during the demolition.

SDM Avneesh Tyagi stated that maintaining law and order was the administration’s responsibility, while demolition work was handled by the contractor.
