Wife Seeks Divorce from Priest Husband After Becoming Police SI | "Embarrassed by His Profession"
A controversial case has surfaced in the Bhopal Family Court, where a woman has filed for divorce from her husband soon after becoming a police sub-inspector, despite his financial and moral support for her career.
According to case details, the husband, a priest by profession, had supported his wife’s ambition to join the police force since the time of their marriage. He reportedly saved a major portion of his income earned through religious rituals to fund her education and training.
After clearing the recruitment process and being appointed as a sub-inspector, the woman’s behaviour towards her husband allegedly changed. The husband told the court that his wife began expressing discomfort with his appearance and profession, saying she felt embarrassed by his work as a priest.
The woman stated before the court that her husband’s traditional attire, including wearing a dhoti-kurta and maintaining a braid (tuft of hair), caused her social embarrassment. She allegedly pressured him to change his appearance and lifestyle. When he refused, she approached the family court seeking divorce.
Counsellors attached to the family court said multiple attempts were made to reconcile the couple, but the woman remained firm in her decision. She reportedly told the counsellors that she could not continue the marriage under any circumstances.
The matter is currently under consideration in the Bhopal Family Court.
