UP Shocker: Woman Elopes With Nephew, Leaves 3-Year-Old Daughter Behind in Deoria

 


A shocking incident has surfaced from Sohanpur village in Deoria district, where a married woman allegedly eloped with her nephew, leaving behind her three-year-old daughter. The woman’s husband, Mannu Gupta (31), who works as a mechanic in Saudi Arabia, returned to India after learning about the incident and filed a complaint with the police.


According to the complaint, Mannu returned on December 29 after being informed by his brother. He alleged that his wife, Pooja Devi, left the house on the night of December 24 and took jewellery and cash worth nearly ₹10 lakh.


Mannu stated that he married Pooja four years ago and that the couple has a young daughter. He alleged that Pooja had been in a relationship with her nephew, Chandan Gupta, for the past two years. Mannu claimed he had tried multiple times to counsel her but was ignored. He further alleged that she openly posted pictures with Chandan on social media.


Family members said they had earlier warned Pooja. Mannu’s elder brother reportedly caught Pooja and Chandan in a compromising situation in the past, but the family chose to remain silent due to social pressure. Chandan reportedly lives barely 150 metres from Mannu’s house.


Mannu alleged that while he was working abroad, he regularly sent money home, including savings meant for his daughter’s future, which were taken when Pooja left.


The abandoned child is currently staying with relatives, as Mannu said the situation at home is emotionally distressing. Villagers have strongly condemned the incident, calling it cruel to leave a young child behind.


Police confirmed that a missing person report has been registered at Bankata police station. Station in-charge Vishal Kumar Upadhyay said efforts are underway to trace the woman and the youth. Further legal action will be taken once they are located and statements are recorded.
