An 18-year-old woman has accused a 65-year-old temple priest of s*xual assault after he allegedly broke into her house and gagged her in a village under Karhiya police station limits in Gwalior district.
According to police, the incident occurred on the night of January 4 when the victim was sleeping at home. Her brother and sister-in-law were away, while her mother, who is mentally unwell, was present in the house. Taking advantage of the situation, the accused, identified as Hariram, a priest at the village’s Siddheshwar Temple, allegedly entered the house.
In her statement, the victim said the priest entered her room, gagged her with a cloth when she resisted, and threatened to kill her using occult practices before committing the assault. He allegedly fled after threatening her with consequences if she spoke out.
The victim reportedly remained silent for one to two days due to fear before informing her family. The family, along with villagers, later caught the accused at the temple. During the confrontation, another priest allegedly assaulted the accused. He was then handed over to the police.
A Zero FIR was registered at the women’s police station and transferred to Karhiya police station. The accused was arrested from Shivpuri district and will be produced before a court. Further investigation is underway.
