Sword, Slogan and Arrest: Karni Sena Leader Jailed in Aligarh for Allegedly Inciting Religious Hatred

Aligarh (UP): Police in Aligarh have arrested Sachin Raghav, a local leader associated with a cow protection group and Karni Sena, for allegedly making objectionable and provocative remarks targeting a religious community. He has been sent to jail following the registration of a case.

The action came after a video went viral on social media in which Raghav was seen holding a sword and sporting a twirled moustache, while raising a controversial slogan during a programme at Ghantaghar, where he was garlanding the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. The slogan, styled on Netaji’s famous call, was alleged by police to have incited religious frenzy.

Taking cognisance of the viral video and related social media posts, the Civil Lines police station registered FIR No. 58/26 under Sections 196(1), 351(2), 353(3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 67(A) of the IT Act for making indecent and inflammatory comments online.

CO-III Sarvam Singh said the accused was arrested for promoting religious hatred and disturbing communal harmony. The police team from Civil Lines arrested Sachin Raghav on Thursday from the Bannadevi police station area.

The accused has been identified as Sachin Raghav, son of Tejveer Singh Raghav, a resident of Palda Jhal village, Shikarpur police station, Bulandshahr district, and currently residing at Maharana Pratap Enclave, Swarn Jayanti Nagar, Quarsi, Aligarh.

The arrest was carried out by a police team led by Inspector Sanjeev Kumar, along with Head Constable Vikesh Kumar of Civil Lines police station. Further legal proceedings are underway.
