Surat | BRTS Bus Driver Assaulted, CCTV Video Goes Viral
A disturbing incident has surfaced from Surat, where a female passenger allegedly assaulted a BRTS bus driver after he refused to halt the bus at an unauthorised stop, as per BRTS rules.
The incident involved a Surat Municipal Corporation–run BRTS bus operating from Y-Junction to Surat Railway Station. On January 16, the passenger reportedly argued with the driver after he declined to stop midway, citing safety regulations. She later exited the bus.
However, the situation escalated the next day near J.H. Ambani School, Vesu, when the same woman boarded the bus again and confronted the driver. According to eyewitnesses, the argument turned violent as she allegedly grabbed the driver, slapped him, and struck his head with a mobile phone, causing bleeding injuries.
The entire episode was captured on the bus’s CCTV camera, and the footage has since gone viral, triggering public outrage and renewed concerns over the safety of public transport staff.
The injured driver received first aid and later filed a complaint at Vesu Police Station. Police confirmed that a case has been registered for assault and obstructing a government employee while on duty.
