Speed Turns Killer Again: Out-of-Control Dumper Mows Down Cars, Drags Toll Worker at Jhansi–Kanpur NH-27
Speeding and negligence once again proved fatal on the Jhansi–Kanpur National Highway-27 in Uttar Pradesh. A horrific accident occurred on Friday at the Semri toll plaza under the Moth police station area, when a speeding dumper lost control and rammed into two cars parked at the toll lane.
Eyewitnesses said the dumper suddenly entered the toll lane at high speed, first hitting one car and then crashing into another parked ahead, causing severe damage and panic at the toll plaza.
The most disturbing part of the incident involved toll plaza worker Ramakant Richharia, who was hit by the dumper and trapped under the vehicle. Instead of stopping, the driver dragged him for a considerable distance, leaving him critically injured. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed at the toll plaza, and the footage has gone viral on social media.
Ramakant Richharia was rushed to Jhansi Medical College, where doctors said he sustained serious head and body injuries and is battling for life.
Police reached the spot soon after receiving information, cleared the damaged vehicles, and restored traffic. The dumper and its driver have been detained, and preliminary investigation has pointed to overspeeding and negligence as the cause of the accident.
Local residents said the Semri toll plaza has witnessed several such accidents in the past, alleging that despite repeated incidents, adequate measures for speed control and safety of toll workers have not been implemented.
