“Naked Man in Car Chases Woman”: Bengaluru Police Register Suo Motu Case After Viral Video

A day after a disturbing video surfaced on social media, Hebbagodi police in Bengaluru have registered a suo motu case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) over alleged sexual harassment.

In the viral video, shared on the woman’s Instagram handle, she alleged that while returning home from work, a man sitting completely naked inside a car repeatedly called out to her and drove the vehicle towards her in a threatening manner. The woman is heard shouting for help and accusing passersby of ignoring her distress.

She further claimed that some people smiled and walked away, assuming the incident was part of a social media reel.

The case was registered based on a complaint filed by Rushabhendra, Head Constable at Hebbagodi police station, who came across the video during routine monitoring of social media. In his complaint, he stated that the footage clearly showed the woman accusing a man in a car of sexually harassing her while being in a disrobed state.

Police registered the case on Sunday and have launched an investigation. Efforts are underway to trace the accused using CCTV footage from the surrounding areas. The police are also trying to locate the woman to record her statement.

Further investigation is in progress, senior officials said.
