Mumbai Horror: School Bus Crushes Grandmother and 9-Month-Old Baby in Khetwadi, Infant Killed


A horrific accident shook Mumbai’s Khetwadi area on Tuesday (27 Jan 2026) afternoon when a school bus ran over a woman and her nine-month-old grandchild, killing the infant on the spot and leaving the woman critically injured.


The incident occurred around 12.23 pm when the woman had gone to pick up her granddaughter, a student of JB Soman School, Colaba, from the school bus drop-off point.


CCTV footage shows the young girl alighting from the bus, after which the woman, carrying the infant in her arms, holds the child’s hand and attempts to cross the road in front of the bus. Moments later, the bus starts moving.


The visuals capture the woman bracing for impact as she, the infant, and the schoolgirl fall to the ground. The front right wheel of the bus runs over the woman and the infant, narrowly missing the granddaughter by just centimetres. The child can be seen crawling away to safety, while a scooter rider stops just in time to avoid hitting her.


The infant died on the spot, while the woman sustained serious injuries and was rushed to hospital. Passersby immediately rushed to help.


Police said a case has been registered and the bus driver has been arrested. Further investigation is underway.
