Minor Girl Held Hostage at Knifepoint in Bijnor Garment Shop, Police Rescue Her Safely

A dramatic hostage situation unfolded in Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh on December 31, when a man held a minor girl at knifepoint inside a clothing shop in Najibabad market. Police acted swiftly and rescued the girl unharmed, arresting the accused.

The incident occurred around 7 pm near Krishna Talkies during a garment sale. Two minor girls were shopping at the store when a masked 24-year-old man suddenly entered, grabbed one of the girls by the neck, and threatened her with a knife. He allegedly demanded ₹1 lakh in cash and a motorcycle from the shop owner.

The tense standoff lasted for nearly 30 minutes, causing panic in the busy market. A large crowd gathered outside the shop, but no one intervened initially due to the accused’s threats. Police personnel on New Year’s Eve patrol reached the spot promptly, engaged the accused in conversation, and eventually overpowered him, seizing the knife and freeing the girl without any injury.

Both girls were later medically examined and found to be safe. CCTV footage from the area is being analysed as part of the investigation.

The accused has been identified as Ajit, also known as Ajeet Bal Govind, a resident of Surjanpur village in Barabanki district. During questioning, he claimed he wanted to go to jail due to personal troubles, though police said his exact motive remains unclear as he also made monetary demands. Further interrogation is underway to assess his mental state and circumstances leading to the incident.
