‘Marry Me or Go to Jail’: DUDA Woman’s Harassment Case Takes Political Turn in Mau

A young woman working with the District Urban Development Agency (DUDA) in Mau, Uttar Pradesh, has accused her colleague of sexually harassing her on the pretext of marriage. Police have registered an FIR and arrested the accused, Ankit Singh, who has been sent to jail. Further investigation is underway.

The accused was earlier described as an engineer, but officials have clarified that Ankit Singh is a contract employee working as a CLTS staff member at DUDA. He was assigned to verify beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. DUDA Project Director Arvind Pandey confirmed this and said the department would not comment on the personal life of the accused.

According to the complaint, the woman, a resident of the Bhiti area, alleged that she had been in a relationship with Ankit Singh, a resident of Gaurari village in Chandauli district, since 2023. She claimed he established the relationship by promising marriage but later refused, accusing her of having relationships with other men.

The case has taken a political turn after a video of the woman surfaced on social media. In the video, she is seen alleging that some local BJP leaders are pressuring her to compromise. She is also heard saying that Ankit Singh should either marry her or remain in jail, and that she will not agree to any settlement.

Additional Superintendent of Police Anoop Kumar said that the law is the same for everyone and justice will be ensured irrespective of influence or pressure. He confirmed that the accused has been arrested and legal proceedings are continuing.
