Loyal Till the End: Pet Dog Guards Bodies of Two Cousins for 3 Days in Snowbound Himachal
In a tragic incident from Himachal Pradesh’s Chamba district, the bodies of two cousins, Piyush Kumar (13) and Vikas Rana, who went missing while shooting a reel, were recovered after three days, with their pet dog found guarding them amid heavy snowfall.
The duo had left home on January 23 to hike towards the Bharmani Mata Temple in Bharmour to record videos but failed to return. Following an extensive search operation involving drones and Army helicopters, rescue teams located the bodies on Monday.
When the teams reached the spot, they found the family’s pet pitbull dog sitting beside the bodies, guarding them in sub-zero temperatures. Despite snowstorms, freezing winds and lack of food or water, the dog reportedly stayed with its owners for nearly three days and nights.
Rescue personnel said the dog showed no aggression and remained close to the bodies even as they approached. Considering the emotional bond, the rescue team airlifted both the body of Piyush and the dog together to Bharmour.
Local MLA Dr Janak Raj confirmed that the dog was safely rescued and handed over to the grieving family. The incident has deeply moved locals, with many calling it a rare and powerful example of loyalty in the face of tragedy.
