‘Lights, Camera, Fake Arrest?’ Viral Video Exposes Serious Misconduct by Aligarh Police
A serious case of alleged police misconduct has surfaced in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, after a video went viral showing policemen purportedly planting knives on two youths and filming a staged arrest.
The video is reportedly from the Panauthi outpost area under Akrabad police station limits. In the footage, police personnel are seen placing knives in the pockets of two young men before recording their arrest, triggering allegations that the youths were falsely portrayed as criminals.
The incident relates to the arrest of Suraj Gautam and Sonu on December 1, 2025, in a mobile phone snatching case. The viral visuals have sparked outrage, with accusations that policemen stabbed themselves or planted weapons to strengthen the case against the accused.
Police Clarification:
In an official statement issued on January 25, 2026, Akrabad police said the viral video is linked to an operation carried out nearly two months ago involving the arrest of two alleged mobile robbers in FIR No. 586/2025 under Sections 304(2) and 317(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police claimed two stolen mobile phones and an illegal knife were recovered during the arrest.
However, to ensure a fair investigation, the policemen seen in the video have been immediately transferred to the police lines. Superintendent of Police (Rural) has been directed to submit an inquiry report within 48 hours.
Area Officer Sanjeev Tomar confirmed that disciplinary action will be taken against the guilty personnel based on the findings of the investigation.
The incident has raised serious questions about police accountability, misuse of power, and the credibility of arrest procedures in the district.
