Land Greed Turns Killer: Man Murders Father, Sister and 14-Year-Old Niece, Dumps Bodies in Well in Prayagraj
Prayagraj: A shocking triple murder over a land dispute has come to light in Lokpur Bisani village under the Mauaima police station area of Prayagraj. Ram Singh (55), his daughter Sadhana Devi (21) and granddaughter Aastha (14) were reported missing on the night of Friday, January 2, 2026.
Early on Saturday, January 3, the accused, Mukesh Patel, allegedly shot his younger brother Mukund Patel in the neck, seriously injuring him. Mukund survived and later named Mukesh as the prime suspect.
Police said that on the same day and night, Mukesh entered his father’s house, strangled Ram Singh and attacked Sadhana and Aastha with an axe, killing all three. Taking advantage of dense night fog, he dumped their bodies into a nearby 20-foot-deep well.
On Sunday, January 4, Mukund Patel lodged a missing persons report at Mauaima police station, clearly suspecting his elder brother Mukesh. After a two-day search operation, which included drone surveillance, a joint team of Mauaima police, Special Operations Group (SOG) and the Crime Branch arrested Mukesh Patel on Monday, January 5.
During interrogation, Mukesh confessed to the murders and led police to the well, from where the bodies of Ram Singh, Sadhana Devi and Aastha were recovered. Police also seized the murder weapons, including an axe and a country-made pistol with two cartridges.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Ganga Nagar) Kuldeep Gunawat said the motive behind the crime was a long-standing land dispute. About a year ago, Ram Singh had transferred his house and around four to 4.5 bighas of land to his younger son Mukund, excluding Mukesh. The accused had reportedly demanded an additional 10 biswas of land, and his resentment grew after his father refused. The disputed property is estimated to be worth ₹1–1.5 crore.
ACP Vivek Yadav of Phulpur confirmed that multiple police teams were involved in the investigation and legal proceedings are underway. Bloodstains were found at the house, and all recoveries were made based on the accused’s confession.
An FIR has been registered at Mauaima police station under murder charges. The bodies were sent for post-mortem examination, and Mukesh Patel has been remanded in custody. Police said further action will follow based on forensic reports and ongoing investigation.
The brutal killings have shocked residents of Lokpur Bisani village, with locals expressing disbelief that a man could murder his own family over a property dispute.
