“I’m a Cop’s Son”: Drunk Youth Thrashes Café Owner, Smashes Shop Near IIT Kanpur
In a shocking incident in Kanpur, the son of a police inspector allegedly vandalised a café and assaulted its owner after being refused alcohol and asked to pay the food bill. The incident took place on Saturday night in the Kalyanpur police station area.
According to police, Avinash Singh, son of a police inspector posted in Jalaun district, arrived at Literature Café near the IIT gate along with his friend Baua Purane alias Baua Sharma. Café owner Gyan Awasthi said both men were drunk and demanded alcohol after ordering food. When told that drinking was prohibited and asked to clear the bill, Avinash allegedly lost his temper.
The accused allegedly kicked and punched the café owner, abused him, and hit him on the head with a chair. He also threw tables and chairs outside the café and broke the glass, claiming, “I am the son of a police inspector, how dare you ask me for money.” The entire incident was captured on the café’s CCTV cameras.
Following a complaint, Kalyanpur police reached the spot, seized the CCTV footage, and registered a case. Both accused were arrested late at night near Kalyanpur Crossing and sent to jail. Police said Baua Purane has multiple criminal cases registered against him, while Avinash Singh had earlier been involved in a firing incident near the IIT campus.
