‘Garuda’ Bird Drops From Sky in UP Cold Wave, Farmers Save Its Life
A rare large eagle, locally referred to as a “Garuda” bird, collapsed mid-flight due to extreme cold in Gotwan (Gotma) village under the Kachhwa area of Mirzapur district, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday morning.
According to villagers, the nearly six-foot-long bird fell into agricultural fields while attempting to fly and was found shivering, surrounded by dogs. Farmers Govind and Sherupal, who were tending their fields, rescued the bird and took it to their home.
To protect it from the cold, the farmers wrapped the bird in a blanket and placed it near a bonfire, providing warmth and immediate relief. The bird’s condition reportedly stabilised after receiving warmth.
The farmers alerted authorities by calling 112, following which the police informed the Forest Department. A forest team reached the spot to ensure the bird’s safe handling and treatment. Further details on its recovery and release are awaited.
The incident has drawn attention in the village, with locals praising the farmers’ timely action and compassion towards wildlife during severe winter conditions.
