Friend Turned Killer? Event Manager Murdered, Body Buried in Bareilly Field
Bareilly police have arrested a man for the murder of event manager Pooja Rana (30), whose decomposed body was recovered from a field behind KCMT College. The accused, identified as Vimal, a resident of Rithaura and a close acquaintance of the victim, was apprehended after CCTV footage showed Pooja last seen with him.
During interrogation, Vimal allegedly confessed to killing Pooja by strangling her with a muffler and burying her body after digging a pit. Police exhumed the body based on his disclosure and sent it for post-mortem examination.
Pooja, a resident of Durga Nagar under the Baradari police station area, had left home on January 12, telling her family she was going to a wedding event. When she did not return and her phone was switched off, the family filed a missing complaint on January 13.
Her father, Prem Singh Rana, alleged that the murder was planned for robbery, claiming Pooja was wearing a scooter helmet, three rings, two chains, a pendant and earrings when she went missing. Police are also probing a possible love affair and financial transactions as motives. The investigation is ongoing to determine if others were involved.
