Fake DSP Caught Roaming in Mau: Man in Senior Police Uniform Turns Out to Be an Impostor
Kotwali police in Mau have arrested a man who was roaming in public wearing the uniform of a DSP-rank police officer. The accused has been identified as 34-year-old Prabhat Pandey, a resident of Siddharthnagar, who was found moving suspiciously in the Munshipura area under the Kotwali police station limits.
Local residents grew suspicious after noticing the man dressed as a senior police officer without any government vehicle, escort, or official movement. They immediately alerted the police. Acting on the information, Kotwali police reached the spot and took the accused into custody.
City Police Inspector Anil Kumar Singh said that during interrogation, it was found that Prabhat Pandey had arrived in Mau from Varanasi on Friday. He had informed his family that he was travelling to Siddharthnagar, but instead reached Mau, where he began searching for an old friend. During this period, he was seen roaming the locality wearing a Circle Officer–level uniform.
Police investigation confirmed that Prabhat Pandey is not associated with the police department in any capacity. During questioning, the accused claimed that he is suffering from a serious illness and is mentally disturbed, which has affected his family life.
Kotwali police have registered a case against him for fraud and misuse of a police uniform. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
