Fake Cop Busted in Jhansi: Man Arrested for Forcing Minors, Disabled Children to Beg
Jhansi police have arrested a man accused of forcing minors and disabled children to beg after he allegedly posed as a policeman to intimidate people and exploit vulnerable children. The accused has been identified as Asif Khan, a resident of the Civil Lines area.
According to Navabad police station in-charge Ravi Srivastava, a complaint was filed by Upendra Babele, a resident of Nainagarh under the Premnagar police station area. The complaint alleged that Asif Khan, along with an unidentified accomplice, was forcing minor and differently-abled children to beg at public places in the city.
Police said the accused was recently using children at the Craft Mela ground. Upendra told the police that while he was recording a video of a disabled girl at the fair, a young man wearing a police cap arrived and claimed to be a policeman. The accused allegedly attempted to take the girl away, saying he would drop her at the control room. Sensing something was wrong, Upendra and others followed him.
It was alleged that the accused was intoxicated at the time. When confronted, he accused others of forcing children to beg. As tensions rose and public anger grew, the police intervened and took the man to the police station.
Following an inquiry, police arrested Asif Khan. Fearing that he could repeat the offence if released on bail, police invoked Section 170 and produced him before the city magistrate, from where he was sent to jail. A search is underway to trace his accomplice.
Police said further investigation is ongoing.
