Dark Secrets of a ‘Godman’: Dera Head Sevadar Baba Baljinder Singh Gets 10 Years Jail for R@pe

Baba Baljinder Singh, the head sevadar of Gurdwara Thath Charan Ghat in Jagraon, Ludhiana, has been sentenced to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment by the Moga District Court in a r@pe case.

According to police and court records, a woman accused Baljinder Singh of sexually exploiting her over a long period on the pretext of marriage. She alleged that he called her to hotels and rooms inside the dera, established physical relations, and later threatened her when she demanded marriage. The victim also claimed she received repeated threats and was offered ₹10 lakh to silence the matter.

The woman stated she had initially approached the sevadar regarding a family problem and remained in contact with him for nearly two years. She further alleged that Baljinder Singh assaulted her after she questioned his conduct with other women.

Investigations revealed that Baljinder Singh lived alone in a private room at the dera, where he met followers individually under strict control. He was known to claim he could cure serious diseases and resolve personal problems through prayers, allegations that later came under scrutiny.

Baljinder Singh has faced multiple controversies in the past. In 2021, an FIR was registered against him over alleged sacrilege during a Nagar Kirtan. In 2024, he was accused of r@pe by a woman in Jagraon but was acquitted in that case. However, in the Moga case, the court found him guilty and awarded a 10-year jail term.

Police said incriminating materials were earlier recovered from his room during searches. The accused has been sent to jail following the verdict.
