CCTV: Thief Steals from Temple, Then Folds Hands to Apologize | Bizarre Incident in Jhansi
An incident that has sparked outrage and debate has come to light in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, where an unknown thief allegedly stole valuables from a Mata temple and then sought forgiveness with folded hands before the deity while leaving the premises. The entire incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed inside the temple, and the footage is now going viral on social media.
The incident occurred on Saturday night at the Badi Mata Temple located on the Garautha–Madhan Road in the Garautha area of Jhansi. Taking advantage of the darkness, the accused broke the temple lock and entered the premises. He allegedly stole precious jewellery adorning the goddess.
On Sunday morning, devotees arriving for routine prayers noticed the broken lock and immediately alerted the police. Upon reaching the spot, the police launched an investigation and examined the CCTV footage from the temple.
The footage shows a young man wearing a blue hoodie and a cap entering the temple. He is seen checking idols one by one, removing warm clothing placed over them, and stealing jewellery from one of the idols. In a scene that has shocked many, the accused is seen folding his hands twice before the deity as he exits the temple, appearing to apologise after committing the theft.
The video has since become a topic of widespread discussion on social media, with many users questioning the contradiction between faith and criminal intent.
When contacted, the in-charge of Garautha police station confirmed that CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced. However, he said no written complaint has yet been received from the temple management or any other party. The exact value of the stolen items will be known only after a formal complaint is lodged. Meanwhile, police are trying to identify and trace the accused based on the viral video.
