A birthday celebration turned violent in Gorakhpur on Tuesday night after a young woman allegedly fired a pistol during an argument, leaving a youth seriously injured. The incident took place in the Singhadia area under the Cantonment police station limits.
According to police, the accused, Anshika, a resident of Harpurbudhat, is currently living in a rented house in Singhadia. On Tuesday, January 20, she was celebrating her birthday with friends near a model shop in the area.
During the celebration, Vishal Mishra arrived at the spot along with his friends Amitabh Nishad, Shailesh and Sandeep. Police said Vishal approached Anshika upon seeing her, following which a heated argument broke out between the two.
Investigators said Vishal suspected that Anshika was regularly taking his wife out, an issue that had led to disputes between them in the past as well. The verbal altercation soon escalated into a physical scuffle. During the confrontation, Anshika allegedly pulled out a pistol, and a shot was fired amid the chaos.
The bullet hit Amitabh Nishad, one of Vishal’s companions, in the stomach. Panic gripped the area after the firing. Amitabh was rushed to a nearby hospital and later referred to a medical college for further treatment. He is a resident of Jungle Sikri Bypass under the Khorabar police station area and works as a driver for a nursing home manager.
After the incident, local residents apprehended Anshika and her companions and informed the police. Police detained Anshika, Vishal Mishra and another youth, and seized the pistol used in the firing.
CCTV footage from the surrounding area has been collected, and a case has been registered. Cantonment Circle Officer Yogendra Kumar Singh said Anshika was previously booked in a theft case at the Khorabar police station. Further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact sequence of events and the motive behind the firing.
