Bhopal | Woman Alleges Assault Over Parking Dispute in Kalpana Nagar, Police Register Case

Bhopal: A young woman, Purnima Dubey, has alleged that she and her friends were assaulted following a parking-related dispute in Kalpana Nagar, Bhopal. The woman shared a video narrating the incident, which has since circulated on social media.

According to her statement, one of her friends attempted to park a vehicle near a local madrasa, a spot they claim is commonly used for parking. She alleged that a group of young men sitting in an auto-rickshaw objected and demanded ₹1,000, leading to an argument.

The woman further alleged that the men called others from the neighbourhood, after which a group, including women, gathered at the spot. She claimed that her friends were assaulted with rods and belts, and that she herself was beaten when she tried to intervene. She also alleged that her hair was pulled during the assault and that one individual shouted provocative words during the incident.

Following the incident, the woman and her friends contacted the police. They were taken for medical examination, which reportedly confirmed injuries consistent with an assault. Based on the medical reports and statements, police registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The woman stated that she has been living away from home for studies since 2019 but said this was the first time she felt unsafe.

Meanwhile, local residents from the neighbourhood, including members of the Muslim community, stated that the incident stemmed from a parking dispute and cautioned against portraying it as a communal issue. They said violence against any woman is unacceptable and condemned the assault, while maintaining that the matter should not be given a religious colour.

Police confirmed that the accused have been arrested and said further investigation is underway. Officials reiterated that strict action will be taken against those found guilty, irrespective of identity or background.
