Auto Driver’s ‘Accident’ Was a Lie: Lover Shot Her Dead, Caught After Police Encounter
Jhansi police have cracked the murder of a woman autorickshaw driver whose death was initially reported as a road accident. The victim, Anita Chaudhary (35), was found dead near her overturned auto in the Nawabad area in the early hours of January 5.
While police first believed she was crushed under the vehicle, suspicion raised by her family led to a post-mortem by a panel of doctors. The report confirmed that Anita was shot dead.
Based on a complaint filed by her husband, Dwarka Chaudhary, police identified the accused as Mukesh Jha (37), who was in a relationship with Anita for 6–7 years, along with his son Shivam (18) and brother-in-law Manoj (35). Shivam and Manoj were arrested earlier and sent to jail.
Mukesh Jha, the prime accused, was on the run and carried a reward of Rs 25,000. On Friday night, police arrested him after he opened fire while trying to escape during a checking operation. He was shot in the leg in retaliatory firing and admitted to hospital.
During interrogation, Mukesh confessed to killing Anita, claiming he felt betrayed after she ended their relationship. Police said further investigation is underway.
