Ambedkar Nagar: BJP Leader Arrested for Brutal Murder of Teacher Wife | Akbarpur News
A shocking case of domestic violence has emerged from Ambedkar Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh, where a BJP leader allegedly murdered his wife by slitting her throat, accusing her of having an extramarital affair and claiming that their children were not his.
The incident took place on Monday in the Gandhi Ashram complex in Akbarpur. The deceased, Soni Singh (35), a private school teacher, was found lying in a pool of blood in the kitchen of her rented house. She had suffered a deep cut on the back of her neck from a sharp-edged weapon.
The accused, Umashankar Singh, a former BJP Mandal media coordinator and city media in-charge, lived in the house with his wife, their two children—Sanidhya (12) and Samarthya (10)—and his parents. Soni Singh was married to Umashankar in 2012, and the couple had been married for 13 years.
According to police and family members, frequent disputes had erupted between the couple due to Umashankar’s suspicion that his wife was involved in an illicit relationship. The arguments reportedly intensified in recent months, with complaints previously being lodged at the police station by both sides.
On the day of the incident, Soni Singh was fasting and had sent her mother-in-law, Malti Devi, to the market to buy fasting-related items. When Malti Devi returned, she found Soni’s body lying on the kitchen floor, covered in blood. Locals gathered after hearing the commotion, and the police were informed.
Police recovered a pickle-cutting sickle from the spot. Although the weapon had been washed in an attempt to destroy evidence, blood stains were still found. The body was sent for post-mortem, and a case of murder was registered at Akbarpur police station on the complaint of Soni Singh’s uncle, who named the husband, mother-in-law and father-in-law as accused.
All three—Umashankar Singh, his father Brijbhan Singh, and his mother Malti Devi—have been arrested and sent to jail. Police say the role of each accused is being investigated from all angles.
Superintendent of Police Abhijeet R. Shankar said that forensic evidence has been collected and the case is under thorough investigation. The accused husband has claimed innocence, stating that he was not present at home at the time of the incident.
The incident has left the two children orphaned. Visuals of the children breaking down while hugging their grandparents have moved residents to tears, with locals expressing concern over their future.
