₹500 Note Bundles, Flashlight Video and ‘Black Magic’ Claim: BJP District Minister Denies Cash Link in Viral Maharajganj Clip
A video purportedly showing a BJP leader standing near bundles of ₹500 currency notes has gone viral on social media from Maharajganj district in Uttar Pradesh, triggering political controversy.
The 20-second video, which surfaced on WhatsApp late Saturday evening, shows BJP District Minister Gautam Tiwari inside a room where bundles of ₹500 notes are seen stacked on the floor on a red carpet. In the clip, Tiwari is seen looking at the bundles using his mobile phone’s flashlight. The person recording the video is heard asking him to switch off the flashlight and claiming that he has filmed the minister with the cash. The video appears to show more than 150 bundles of notes.
However, Gautam Tiwari has categorically denied that the money belongs to him. Speaking to journalists after the video went viral, he claimed that the cash shown in the video is fake and alleged that he had been trapped by people practising black magic.
Tiwari alleged that five to six individuals cheated him of around ₹1.5 crore in the name of a land deal and are now blackmailing him by circulating a video showing bundles of paper instead of real currency. He claimed the video was shot by a person from Varanasi and insisted that the money seen is not genuine.
Responding to questions, Tiwari said he had filed an application for an FIR regarding the alleged fraud. He denied any connection with hawala transactions and said the money shown was not linked to his business. He also said he could not clearly state when or where the video was recorded.
Meanwhile, Kotwali Inspector Nirbhay Singh said no complaint had been received so far in connection with the matter. He added that appropriate action would be taken if a formal complaint is filed.
Gautam Tiwari has been serving as BJP District Minister for the past three years. He has not contested any elections and is known locally as a property dealer. The BJP leadership has not issued any official statement so far, and the origin and authenticity of the video remain unverified.
