Rent Dispute Turns Deadly: Landlady Killed, Body Chopped and Hidden in Suitcase by Tenants in Ghaziabad
A shocking murder has come to light in Ghaziabad’s Rajnagar Extension, where a landlady was allegedly killed by her tenant couple over a rent dispute. The incident took place on Wednesday at Aura Chimera Society, where the accused had reportedly not paid rent for the past five to six months.
According to police, the landlady, Deep Shikha Sharma, wife of Umesh Sharma and a resident of the same society, had gone to the tenants’ flat to collect pending rent. When she did not return for several hours, neighbours grew suspicious. CCTV footage later showed her entering the flat in the evening but never coming out.
Acting on suspicion, society residents approached the flat of the tenants. During a search, Deep Shikha Sharma’s body was found dismembered and stuffed inside a suitcase kept under a bed. The accused couple allegedly attempted to flee but were caught and detained by residents before police arrived.
The accused have been identified as Ajay Gupta and Aakriti Gupta, both tenants in the society. Police took them into custody immediately after reaching the spot.
Confirming the incident, Nandgram ACP Upasana Pandey said that information about the murder was received at around 11.15 am on December 17, 2025. “During investigation, it was found that Deep Shikha Sharma had gone to another flat in the society to collect rent. When she did not return, suspicion arose, and her body was recovered from a red suitcase inside the accused’s flat,” she said.
The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the law. Statements of family members have been recorded, and further legal proceedings are underway.
Meanwhile, a video has surfaced on social media allegedly showing the accused couple confessing to the crime. In the video, the man claims he committed the murder due to alleged harassment by the landlady, while his wife interrupts and states that she was also involved in the crime. Police said the video is being examined as part of the investigation.
