Real-Life Drishyam in UP: Man Strangles Wife, Buries Body Behind Home in Gorakhpur

A missing woman case in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur has turned into a chilling murder, with a man accused of strangling his wife and burying her body in a pit behind their house.

The accused, Arjun, a labourer who works in Ludhiana, allegedly killed his 26-year-old wife Khushbu on December 21 after suspecting her of secretly using a mobile phone and being in touch with another man. The couple had been married for two years and had no children.

After the incident, Arjun told family members that Khushbu had left home without informing anyone. When she could not be traced for days, his father Shyam Narayan approached the police, suspecting that his son had killed his daughter-in-law.

During interrogation, Arjun first claimed Khushbu died by suicide and that he dumped her body in a river. He even took police to the riverbank and misled them for nearly two hours. As contradictions emerged, he allegedly confessed.

Police said Arjun admitted to strangling Khushbu around 11 pm and burying her in a six-foot-deep pit behind the house. On Thursday, police excavated the spot and recovered the body, which was sent for post-mortem.

Circle Officer Shilpa Kumari said the body was recovered based on the accused’s confession. A murder case has been registered on a complaint by Khushbu’s younger brother, and further investigation is underway.
