Birthday Turns into Nightmare: Bajrang Dal Storms Café in Bareilly, Police Action Sparks Outrage
A birthday celebration at a café in Prem Nagar, Bareilly, was disrupted on December 27 after members of the Bajrang Dal allegedly stormed the venue, accusing the group of “love jihad” as two Muslim youths were present with Hindu women.
The party was hosted by a nursing student along with nine friends. Reports say over a dozen activists barged in and assaulted at least one of the Muslim boys, Shan and Waqif, and the girl host when she tried to intervene.
Police who reached the spot challaned the two youths and a café staffer for breach of peace, even as they said the students had done nothing wrong. The attackers were reportedly only advised to disperse, triggering public criticism.
After the incident went viral on social media, Bareilly SP (City) Manush Pareek said on December 28 that an FIR would be registered against the unidentified attackers. An explanation has also been sought from the local SHO for not taking immediate action against the aggressors.
Further investigation is underway.
