Woman Beaten to Death by In-Laws in Vaishali’s Bidupur After ₹5 Lakh Demand Rejected

Vaishali, Bihar – A tragic case of dowry-related murder has emerged from Eraji Kanchanpur village under the Bidupur police station area, where a married woman was allegedly beaten to death by her in-laws after her family failed to meet their financial demands.

The deceased has been identified as Divya Kumari, wife of Abhishek Kumar alias Raja, a resident of Eraji Kanchanpur. According to the complaint filed by Divya’s father, Manoj Singh, his daughter was killed by her husband and in-laws for not fulfilling a demand of ₹5 lakh in dowry.

Singh stated that Divya was married to Abhishek in 2016 with great pomp and ceremony. The marriage was peaceful for the first two years, but soon her in-laws began harassing her for money — demanding sums ranging from ₹20,000 to ₹50,000. Though the family managed to meet some of these demands earlier, they were unable to fulfil the recent demand of ₹5 lakh.

On Thursday morning, a relative informed Divya’s family that she had been beaten to death by her in-laws. Her father and other relatives rushed to her matrimonial home and found her body lying in a room under suspicious circumstances, bearing visible injury marks.

Upon receiving the information, Bidupur police, led by Station House Officer Ravi Prakash, reached the scene and initiated an investigation. A three-member FSL team also examined the spot and collected forensic samples. The body was later sent to Sadar Hospital for post-mortem and subsequently handed over to the family.

Police have registered a case based on the father’s written complaint, accusing Divya’s husband, mother-in-law, and father-in-law of murder over dowry. All three accused have been arrested, and further investigation is underway.
