Six-Months Pregnant Woman Found Hanging a Day After Anniversary — Family Alleges Dowry Harassment in Haryana’s Bapda Village
Karnal, Haryana — A shocking case has emerged from Bapda village, where 21-year-old Kajal, who was six months pregnant, was found hanging in her home — just a day after her first wedding anniversary. The incident has triggered a major row between her maternal and in-laws’ families, who are accusing each other of foul play.
According to police, Kajal was married to Manish of Bapda village on October 22, 2024. Based on a complaint by her brother Bablu, a resident of Pingli (Karnal), police have registered a case against five people, including her husband, mother-in-law Saroj, brother-in-law Ramkumar, sister-in-law, and husband’s maternal uncle, under charges of dowry harassment and abetment to suicide.
In his complaint, Bablu stated that he had visited Kajal on Bhaiya Dooj, when she confided that her husband and in-laws had been harassing and beating her for dowry. She allegedly told him that Manish was demanding a new bike despite already receiving an old one from Bablu just a month earlier.
Kajal’s sister Komal claimed that Manish had been drinking and assaulting Kajal since marriage. A day before the incident, Kajal reportedly called Komal saying her life was in danger.
However, the in-laws have denied all allegations, calling them “baseless.” Kajal’s mother-in-law Saroj claimed that Kajal rarely did household work and was influenced by her brother Bablu, who “instigated her to take the extreme step.” Manish told police he found Kajal hanging when he returned home from work and that she was declared dead at a private hospital.
Station House Officer (SHO) Janpal Singh said that the body has been kept in the mortuary, and a forensic team has collected evidence from the scene. “A detailed investigation is underway, and the truth will emerge after the post-mortem report,” he added.
