Sikar Tragedy: Woman and Four Children Found Dead; Families Refuse to Claim Bodies
Sikar (Rajasthan): A heartbreaking case of mass suicide has come to light from Anirudh Residency, Palwas Road, where five members of a family — a mother and her four children — were found dead inside a flat after reportedly consuming poison.
The deceased have been identified as Kiran Devi alias Pinky (40), her sons Sumit (18), Ayu (4), Avnish (2.5), and daughter Sneha (13). Their decomposed bodies were discovered after neighbors complained of a foul smell coming from the locked apartment for over a week.
Police recovered ten packets of poison (eight used) and a bottle of liquid poison from the scene. Preliminary investigations suggest the family consumed poisoned food. Samples of the food and other items have been sent for forensic testing.
According to police, Kiran was active on social media, making YouTube comedy videos and Instagram reels featuring her children. Her daughter Sneha also posted gaming clips online.
Kiran’s personal life had been turbulent. She first eloped and married Nemichand from her village in 2006, with whom she had two children. The couple divorced in 2019, after which Kiran married Shailesh, a teacher from Jhunjhunu, and had two sons.
Last year, Kiran filed a rape case against Shailesh, which was later found false during the police investigation. Since then, she had been living alone with her children.
Following the discovery of the bodies, neither her parents nor her two husbands came forward to claim them. Police said both families refused to perform the last rites, forcing them to proceed with the postmortem independently.
Sadar Police Station in-charge Indraraj Marodia stated, “Since both families have refused to claim the bodies, the police will conduct the postmortem and handle further procedures.”
The cause behind the extreme step remains unclear, and the investigation continues.
