Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh – In a shocking case of greed and betrayal, a 47-year-old woman has been arrested for murdering her 22-year-old son to claim his ₹40 lakh insurance money.
The accused, Mamta Devi, a widow from Angadpur village, allegedly plotted the murder with her lover, Mayank Katiyar (33), and his brother, Rishi Katiyar (28).
Pradeep Sharma, who had been working in Andhra Pradesh for the past five years, had returned home for Diwali. On the night of October 26, Mayank and Rishi took him out for dinner, stopped the car at a deserted location, and attacked him with a hammer, killing him on the spot. They later dumped his body on the highway to make it look like a road accident.
When relatives found Mamta Devi’s house locked, they filed a missing complaint. During investigation, police recovered Pradeep’s body and arrested the three accused. During interrogation, all confessed to the crime.
