Love Turned Deadly: Ex-Lover Slits Throat of Newlywed Woman in Kaushambi — Shot and Arrested After Police Encounter

Kaushambi (Uttar Pradesh): A gruesome incident has shocked the residents of Sirathu town in Kaushambi district, where a 23-year-old newlywed woman, Anjali Patel, was brutally murdered by her former lover, Balveer Singh Patel.

According to police, the incident took place on Wednesday evening in Ward No. 11 under Saini Kotwali area. Anjali was alone at home while her in-laws were working in the paddy fields. Around 6 p.m., Balveer arrived on a bike and, after a brief conversation, attacked Anjali with a sharp weapon, slitting her throat and killing her on the spot.

Anjali had married six months ago, and her husband works in Delhi at a private firm.

Upon receiving the information, Superintendent of Police Rajesh Kumar immediately formed four special teams to track down the accused. Using mobile surveillance, CCTV footage, and technical inputs, police traced Balveer’s location. On Thursday morning, during an encounter near Nihalpur, police and the Special Operations Group (SOG) arrested Balveer after shooting him in the leg. He was subsequently admitted to the district hospital for treatment.

During interrogation, the accused confessed that he and Anjali were in a love relationship before her marriage. Their marriage had been fixed earlier but was later called off due to family reasons. After Anjali’s marriage, she distanced herself from Balveer, which enraged him. Consumed by anger and obsession, he returned from Delhi in October and planned the murder.

Police have recovered from Balveer’s possession the knife used in the murder, an illegal pistol, two cartridges, and the motorcycle he used to commit the crime. The mobile phone of the deceased has also been seized as evidence.

The brutal murder of a young woman by her ex-lover has sparked widespread outrage and fear in the region, highlighting once again the dangers of obsession and toxic relationships.
