Haryana IPS Suicide Case Deepens: Investigating Officer Also Ends Life, Leaves Explosive Note
The controversy surrounding the alleged suicide of Haryana IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar has taken a shocking turn. On October 14, 2025 Tuesday, investigating officer Sandeep Lathar reportedly shot himself dead with his service revolver in Rohtak, leaving behind a three-page suicide note and a video message.
In his note, Lathar accused ADGP Puran Kumar of corruption, intensifying the mystery around the case he was assigned to probe.
Lathar’s death came just hours after state DGP Shatrujeet Kapur was sent on leave, following the demand by Puran Kumar’s family for action against senior officers allegedly involved in his harassment. Om Parkash Singh has now been given additional charge as Director General of Police.
Earlier, IPS officer Puran Kumar had allegedly died by suicide in Chandigarh on October 7. The Chandigarh Police registered an FIR after taking cognisance of the “final note” he left behind.
Puran Kumar’s wife, senior IAS officer Amneet P. Kumar, has demanded strict action against those named in her husband’s note and has refused to allow an autopsy, citing involvement of “powerful officials” in the case.
