Dalit Youth Death After Brutal Torture in Ajmer Sparks Outrage — Beaten, Humiliated, and Driven to Suicide

Ajmer (Rajasthan): A horrifying case from the Mangliyawas police station area of Ajmer district has sent shockwaves across the region. 24-year-old Dalit youth Nitesh Verma, a resident of Luniyawas, Jaipur, was allegedly tortured and humiliated by the family of a young woman he had met on Instagram.

According to reports, Nitesh had developed a friendship with the woman through social media and travelled to Mayapur village near Ajmer on October 7 to meet her. However, this meeting turned into a nightmare and ultimately cost him his life.

As per the complaint lodged by Nitesh’s maternal uncle, Lalit Kishore, the woman’s family members allegedly captured Nitesh, tied his hands and feet, brutally assaulted him, shaved his head and moustache, and sent him out of the village naked on his motorcycle. Traumatized by the humiliation, Nitesh was reportedly left mentally shattered.

The following morning, on October 8, Nitesh’s body was found near the railway tracks in the Adarsh Nagar police station area. Preliminary investigation suggests that he died by suicide after jumping in front of a train around 1:30 a.m. His body was shifted to JLN Hospital, Ajmer, for post-mortem examination.

Lalit Kishore further alleged that when family members tracked Nitesh’s location and reached Mayapur, they too were attacked and beaten. Nitesh’s mother and two friends were held hostage and assaulted by the accused. The family remains in a state of fear following the brutal incident.

The Mangliyawas police have registered a case under multiple serious sections, including abetment to suicide, kidnapping, assault, wrongful confinement, and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The accused have been identified as Phoolchand (the girl’s father), his uncle Santosh, and Satyanarayan Goswami of Mayapur.

Station Officer Dinesh Chaudhary confirmed that police teams are conducting raids to apprehend the accused and that a detailed investigation is underway.

The incident has sparked anger and outrage across social media and Dalit communities, raising questions about social discrimination, online relationships, and rising caste-based violence in Rajasthan.
