Chandauli Tragedy: Man Shoots Girlfriend Over Marriage Refusal, Ends Life
Chandauli, UP – A shocking incident has shaken Chandauli district, where a young man shot his girlfriend after she refused to marry him, and later died by suicide.
The accused, Sanjay Sonkar (25), a fruit vendor from Mahmudpur New Basti, was in a long-term relationship with Sabiya (Shadia) Bano (20/22), a resident of the same locality. However, when her family fixed her marriage elsewhere, she began distancing herself from him.
On Thursday evening, as Sabiya returned home with her mother carrying vegetables, Sanjay confronted her outside their house in Ramnagar. He reportedly asked if she would marry him. When she refused, he pulled out a pistol and shot her in the chest and stomach. She collapsed on the spot, critically injured, while locals rushed her to hospital.
After the shooting, Sanjay fled to his aunt’s house in Ramnagar, where he turned the gun on himself. He died on the spot.
Police, including SP Aditya Langhe and ASP Anant Chandrashekhar, reached the scene, recovered the pistol, and launched an investigation into the case.
Doctors have confirmed that the young woman remains in critical condition.
The shocking incident, rooted in a love affair opposed by family and rejection of marriage, has left the local community stunned.
