Caught Red-Handed! UP Police Sub-Inspector Nabbed Taking ₹2 Lakh Bribe Inside Station
In a major embarrassment for the Uttar Pradesh Police, Sub-Inspector Dhananjay Singh was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) in Lucknow after being caught red-handed accepting a bribe of ₹2 lakh. The incident, which took place on October 29, 2025, at the Paper Mill Colony police outpost, was captured in a viral video that has since sparked outrage.
According to reports, Singh had demanded money from Prateek Gupta, a local coaching centre owner, in exchange for removing his name from a gang-rape case FIR filed on September 9, 2025, at the Mahanagar police station. Initially, Singh had allegedly asked for ₹50 lakh, but later settled for ₹2 lakh after negotiations.
Gupta reported the matter to the Anti-Corruption Organisation (ACO), which laid a trap. During the sting operation, Singh was seen in the viral clip calmly accepting bundles of ₹500 notes, which he then hid inside a file. Moments later, ACB officials entered the outpost and arrested him on the spot. The marked currency was recovered immediately.
Singh has been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act, and a detailed investigation is underway to determine if other officers were involved. The Lucknow Police Commissionerate has also initiated departmental action against him.
