Barabanki Shock: Woman Plots Husband’s Murder With E-Rickshaw Driver, Crime Exposed by Her Own Son
Barabanki (UP): In a gruesome case of betrayal, police in Barabanki have arrested Pooja Gautam and Kamlesh, an e-rickshaw driver, for murdering Pooja’s husband, Hanumantlal, and staging the crime as a road accident. The shocking truth came to light after the couple’s young son innocently told police, “Papa was killed.”
The incident occurred on October 13, when the family was returning from the Deva Mela. As per police, Pooja had promised Kamlesh ₹1 lakh to carry out the murder. Near Tahirpur turn on Deva–Lucknow Road, Kamlesh attacked Hanumantlal with an iron rod, killing him on the spot. The duo then faked a road mishap to mislead investigators.
Police suspicions grew due to inconsistencies in Pooja’s statement, and questioning of the child exposed the murder plot. Further investigation revealed that Pooja was allegedly having an illicit relationship with her nephew, which had caused repeated arguments in the family.
On the pretext of feeling cold, Pooja switched from her husband’s motorcycle to Kamlesh’s rickshaw before the planned attack. After the murder, they quietly returned to Lucknow.
Police later recovered the iron rod, the rickshaw, and mobile phones used in the crime. Both accused were arrested within 24 hours and have been sent to judicial custody.
ASP Vikas Chandra Tripathi described the case as one driven by greed and betrayal.
