After 12 Years on the Run, Absconding Accused Arrested in Mangaluru

The Mangaluru North Police have arrested Altaf (47), a resident of Kasaba Bengre, who had been absconding for nearly 12 years without appearing before the court for trial.

A case under Sections 143, 147, 148, 323, 427, 506, and 149 IPC had been registered against him at the Mangaluru North Police Station in connection with rioting, assault, property damage, and issuing threats.

Though the chargesheet was filed and trial proceedings began in the 2nd CJM Court, Mangaluru (C.C. No. 12/2007), Altaf went missing during the trial, prompting the court to categorize it as a Long Pending Case (LPC).

Acting on specific intelligence, a team comprising ASI Babu, PC 3264 Guru B.T., and PC 311 Sunil Kumar N. traced and arrested Altaf on October 5, 2025, in the Mangaluru Port area.

He was later produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody, officials confirmed.
