Supreme Court Order Turns Deadly: UP Teachers Ends his Live Over TET Pressure
Uttar Pradesh is reeling under shock after government teachers allegedly committed suicide following the Supreme Court’s order making the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) mandatory for all teachers.
In Mahoba district, 52-year-old government teacher Manoj Sahu was found hanging in his home. He had secured his job under the deceased dependent quota after his father’s death. Troubled by the thought of clearing TET at this age, he reportedly ended his life.
A similar incident surfaced in Hamirpur district, where Ganeshilal, posted as an assistant teacher at an upper primary school in Mahoba, died by suicide at his second residence in Atraulia. His son, Anuragi, revealed that his father had been under immense stress ever since the Supreme Court ruling. He was worried about losing his job if he failed to clear the exam.
The apex court recently ruled that all government teachers with more than five years of service left must clear TET to retain their jobs or secure promotions. Those with less than five years of service are exempt. The decision has sparked fear and resentment among thousands of teachers in the state.
The tragic deaths of Manoj Sahu and Ganeshilal highlight the growing anxiety among government teachers, who now face the pressure of examinations despite decades of service.
